Laura is an unloved adopted daughter of the Gray family. She had a secret crush on Darren for three years, only to catch him in an affair with her adoptive sister Selena. Selena drove under the influence and injured Damiano, the godfather of the Moretti family. To protect Selena, Darren personally handed Laura over to Damiano as a bargaining chip. Everyone said that offending the godfather meant only death, yet within that terrifying estate, Laura felt protected and favored for the first time. Damiano—cold, ruthless, and fierce—had witnessed his mother being driven to death by the Gray family as a child and had devoted years to revenge, yet he fell for this fragile adopted daughter and no one else. From initial scrutiny and mockery to later protectiveness and possessiveness, Laura became the only exception in his cold world and healed the trauma he had buried for years.
