Ayla Sterling is thrown off a cruise ship by her brother, fiancé, and cousin — all plotting her death for an $80 million payout and her shares. She survives by falling into a forbidden underwater ruin, where she pulls a sealed sword and frees Lucien, a fallen angel imprisoned for three thousand years. Bound by a blood pact, she trades her soul for his power: she'll teach him the modern world; he'll help her take revenge. She returns during her own memorial service and reclaims everything — estate, shares, mother's necklace — piece by piece. But Lucien's freed power draws an ancient order sworn to destroy him, and the clan mark on Ayla's arm ties her to the family that locked him away. As their bond deepens from bargain to devotion, they must hunt down those draining his kind and end the godslayer program targeting them both.
